Just Another (Ku)brick in the Wall

Welcome to Stanley Kubrick week on SBS!

The schedule is as follows:

Sunday, 16 November, 9:35pm - 2001: Space Odyssey (1968)
Tuesday, 18 November, 11:40pm - Lolita (1962)
Wednesday, 19 November, 10:30pm - Barry Lyndon (1975)
Thursday, 20 November, 10:05pm - The Shining (1980)
Friday, 21 Nobember, 10:00pm - A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Saturday, 22 November 10:00pm - Full Metal Jacket (1987)

I haven't seen Lolita, Barry Lyndon or Full Metal Jacket, so I'm looking forward to a full week ahead of Kubricky old favourites and new surprises.

Thank God that bloody awful Eyes Wide Shut isn't making an appearance!

God I hate 'Eyes Wide Shut', euch, Nicole Kidman. It's been said before but I'll say it again: she peaked with 'BMX Bandits' and it's been a sorry downhill run from there...

I haven't seen 'Barry Lyndon' either but very keen to see a movie with 'Barry' in its title. Let's check back after the viewing, eh?

i agree re: "eyes wide shut" - tom cruise and nicole kidman together - two of the most irritating actors in hollywood!

i really can't remember the plot of "a clockwork orange", but some of the images from the film have certainly seared themselves onto my brain. Kubick is certainly good at the memorable image - the monolith and the floating fetus in 2001, for example...

The only movie I ever liked 'our' Nicole in was To Die For, where she played a character very much like the person I imagine she is in real life.

But I must admit I really enjoyed Tom Cruise in two films: (1) Magnolia, and (2) Tropic Thunder.
